Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipThe Pollinator Project is a nonprofit nestled over in Phoenix, Oregon, where we do our best to educate the community about the interesting pollinators and native plants that we have in this really biodiverse area.
We do that through community education programs, events, and a lot of conservation work.
There are over 780 different kinds of bees just in Oregon.
And unless we have those native plants in our ecosystems, in our communities, those insects, they're not gonna be here.
And having that in your own little backyard is a little act of conservation, but it's also a way to learn about the ecosystem you're living in.
Our pollinator pals education program is how we reach out to students and younger people in the area and teach them about the really incredible area that they are living in.
We have been working with the Phoenix-Talent School District, Medford School District, Ashland, Grants Pass, Ruch, everywhere, talking to kids about the interesting pollinators and native plants that are in this ecosystem.
Showing kids that there is a natural world to love.
It's a way to engage and inspire and educate the community.
And as we began to realize we had such a wonderful resource and we had seeds, we began working, creating a native plant nursery, which is where we're standing.
And so we are helping to get more native plants out into the community.
We are helping to educate volunteers about the native plants.
And then we can help by planting a native plant in our garden.
Anything from a grass to a tree, we have a demonstration garden out front that people can come and learn about the plants and see them.
And the more of those gardens that we can put in throughout the community and getting more people educated no matter what their age, from tiny to older, then it's gonna make a difference.
And that's why I do it.
