- My gear.
Usually when I get up this early in the morning, I dont know, it's just a peaceful time of day.
The first thing I'm gonna drive up to the hill and the first thing I'm gonna do is look for the sun and see where the sun is and see for look for clouds about a half hour before the sun comes up.
If there's a lot of clouds, it usually produces a lot of nice color in the sky.
So that's the first thing I usually look for.
And if it looks like it's gonna be a nice colorful morning, I'll drive up the Jacobson barn and just hang out there for a little bit and just see if there's something interesting to capture.
It's hard to put into words why I come up here.
I mean, I just started doing photography about five, six years ago, and before that, I just walk up here with the dog and not pay much attention.
But since I got a camera, I pay much more attention to the, to the sky, to the sun, to the moon.
I don't know why.
It just became kind of an obsession after a while.
And now every day, the first thing I do when I wake up is check the weather.
And before I go to sleep, I check the weather to see if it's gonna be a good sunrise or a good sunset, or if we have thunderstorms moving in, if we have northern lights maybe appearing at night.
It's just something different than science.
I never consider myself as an artist or creative.
I kind of consider myself an academic.
And I've been in school for a long time and it was just all science.
And there's not a lot of room for subject, subjectivity in science, but you look at a photograph and you can edit it in an infinite number of ways.
Jacobson Barn is my favorite location.
This is probably my second favorite location because this is the, the best chance to see small mammals.
This is my routine.
I usually get up early, get some coffee and drive around Horsebarn Hill in the morning almost every morning.
This is the most peaceful time of day, and if I capture a couple photos, that's even better.
